Adrian Hunter has concealed his identity and posed as a servant to assist his powerful uncle. He’s on the verge of obtaining the information he needs when circumstances spiral out of his control. He’s caught alone with a woman he scarcely knows. When they’re discovered in this compromising circumstance, he’s forced to marry her at gunpoint. Luckily, his uncle should be able to obtain an annulment. All Adrian has to do is complete his mission…and not consummate the marriage, no matter how enticing the bride may be.

Lady Camilla Worth has never expected much out of life—not since her father was convicted of treason and she was passed from family to family. A marriage, no matter how unfortunate the circumstances under which it was contracted, should mean stability. It’s unfortunate that her groom doesn’t agree. But Camilla has made the best of worse circumstances. She is determined to make her marriage work. All she has to do is seduce her reluctant husband.

It is no secret that I have been in a pretty big reading slump this month. I’ve mentioned it in a post or two and if you’re a frequent visitor, you’ve probably noticed that I haven’t posted a review in a while. It isn’t that a bad book or a really good one put me in a slump, it is that I haven’t really wanted to pick up a book and just keep on reading it until I finish. When After the Wedding landed in my inbox, I messaged my pal Lisa asking if she wanted to buddy-read since we had both been waiting for this book for what felt like a millenium. We got off to a rough start but soon, I literally couldn’t stop reading and maybe jumped a little past our scheduled reading.

Anyway. So. Yeah. We’ve been waiting for After the Wedding for 2.5 years and honestly, Courtney Milan fucking delivered. This is only the second book in the series, but the more I read (and re-read) the more I can see how meticulously Milan has laid out this saga and how she builds the overarching story. These books start slow, and you best believe they do, but the build up is absolutely worth it. We get introduced to different sets of characters who we slowly fall in love.

Camilla and Adrian are forced to marry at gunpoint. The situation is less than ideal and to get their annulment they need to discredit the Rector and expose the Bishop for all his wrong doings. Over the course of weeks, as they conduct a secret investigation into the wrongdoings of the Bishop, Camilla and Adrian slowly start to fall in love. Obviously. Because they are both amazing human beings.

Yet like all of Courtney’s books there is much larger things at play. Both Adrian and Camilla have strained (or non-existent in the case of Camilla) relationships with their siblings and that’s a bridge they need to mend. There is also a larger conspiracy surrounding the Worth family that doesn’t get as much attention this time around but it is very much still present within the story. Adrian and his extended fam get some page time as well and Adrian gets to come to terms with how toxic his uncle is.

The romance in this novel, like most of Milan’s, is sweet and the angst hits all the right notes. I was eating up every little scene with even the smallest amount of softness and I just really really really enjoyed watching these children’s fall in love.

The plot was just as compelling and honestly, I’ve spent a lot of time since finishing the book extensively scouring Milan’s website and the Q&A at the end of Once Upon a Marquess to figure out when I would get other stories and what would happen. Basically, reading After the Wedding not only reminded me how much of a genius Milan is but also how much fun it can be to read a truly good book that compels you. Of course, the issue also is that I am now going to have to wait till 2030 for book 7 and of course, by then, I will have passed away. But the good thing is that at least waiting for Milan’s books will keep me a reason to STAY AROUND.

So moral of the story is that if you haven’t read a single Courtney Milan, you better fix that and starting with this incredibly compelling series wouldn’t be the worst idea. Of course, you’ll also spend a couple days/weeks moping about the brilliance of Milan’s mind and your need for more so there is that…

5 Bookstores On My Bucket List

Posted by on 04/18/2018 • 8 Comments

1. Shakespeare and Company (Paris, France)

I think this is one of those bookstores almost all bookworms have heard of and I WANT TO VISIT (and likely by nothing because I am trash.)

2. The Ripped Bodice (Los Angeles, United States)

A bookstore exclusively for romance novels? YES PLEASE. THIS GIRL NEEDS IT.

3. Boekhandel Dominicanen (Maastricht, Netherlands)

The bookstore is apparently located in a 700 year old church so you get old world charm will browsing through all the books your heart could desire.

4. Foyles Bookshop (London, United Kingdom)

ITS SO BIG AND one of the most iconic London bookstores so obviously I am going to want to stop by someday.

5. Livraria Lello e Irmao (Porto, Portugal)

Last but not least, THIS MAJESTIC BOOKSTORE. It is almost two centuries…

7 Books I’d Rescue If My House Was Burning Down

Posted by on 04/13/2018 • 7 Comments

UMMMMMM. So if you know me, you know I collect Melina Marchetta books but I don’t want this entire post to be about me saving my Marchetta books so I promise I’ll stick with just two. Also, S/O to Nick for helping me brainstorm this post.

1. My signed copy of American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang

Ummm, I’d never let this baby cherish in a fire. Gene Luen Yang has been a fav for over a decade and I was ecstatic when I finally got to meet him. I might have freaked him out a little.

2. My tattered copy of Esperanza Rising by Pam Ryan Muñoz

I usually like to claim this book as the first one I ever bought and there is a fun story behind…

The Summer of Jordi Perez and Rashika’s Favorite Burger Place

Posted by on 04/10/2018 • 3 Comments

The Summer of Jordi Perez was everything you can ask from for a summer-y read. Romance, friendship, identity and just a little bit of food-fun, Jordi Perez was truly a package. Also Jordi Perez is the name of the love interest and she was delightful as well.

I always complain about this because I am a whiny baby but it is SO HARD to express feelings in a review for a book you really really enjoyed and Jordi Perez is SUCH A FUN READ. I’ve had a really rough month and a half and have read almost no books this month but Jordi Perez cheered me up when I needed it.

Summer is not going how Abby Ives had thought it would. It’s the summer before senior year and all…

Diverse Books Out March 2018

Posted by on 04/09/2018 • 4 Comments

March has been a not-so-great month for me so I delayed doing this post by a week (usually done on first Sunday of new month) but I DIDN’T FORGET. So, welcome to the March 2018 roundup of diverse releases. As previously mentioned, these roundups focus on YA and MG books because that’s what is easiest to keep track of for me. If I miss a book, or include one that shouldn’t be on here, let me know!!!

Any of these on your TBR? What are you most looking forward to diving into??

7 Romance Novels I Am Anticipating in 2018

Posted by on 04/05/2018 • 1 Comment

I am never the person who is on top of the upcoming romance novels list but somehow, this year, there seem to be a large number of books coming out that I am looking forward to and that GIVES ME A REASON TO DO A POST ABOUT THEM. YAY.

1. How To Forget a Duke by Vivienne Lorett

Vivienne Lorret was one of those authors I discovered through an impulse one-click and I’ve been a fan ever sense. She never disappoints and this time, she is coming out with an Emma-esque retelling???

2. The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

Not only does the book have an adorable cover, it also has an adorable premise. Stella Lane thinks she is not good at romance so she decides to hire an escort…

What I’ve Been Reading: March Update

Posted by on 04/02/2018 • 0 Comments

It seems like 2018 is now shaping up to be a pretty shitty year for me so like, I’ve been behind on everything and not in the mood to do anything except sit around and mope. I would say something more optimistic but like I am not an optimistic person in general, lol. But I’ve been rewatched old favs as a pick-me-up which has been helping a little. March was a decent month for reading and I REALLY hit my backlist TBR hard.

Only four sequels this month but I technically finished two series so HELL YEAH.

It was really great revisiting a series I read back in the day and this time, the books really lived up to my expectations. However, with time comes…

Adventurous and Swoony: Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett

Posted by on 03/30/2018 • 1 Comment

I’ve been reading Jenn Bennett for half a decade now and she’s been one of those authors I basically just read anything by. I don’t need a summary or acclaim, I JUST NEED BOOKS BY JENN BENNETT. This book had the added advantage of having an enemies-to-lovers/friends-to-lovers romance trope and an survival-esque story so like… yeah.

Unsurprisingly, I loved this book but I also got to buddy-read it with a close friend which made my experience reading it all the more better. But as anyone knows, loving a book doesn’t make writing a review any easier. It probably makes it a lot harder.

Zorie and Lennon used to be the best of friends and were on their way to becoming something more when something goes wrong. Now they go out…
