2017 Releases You Shouldn’t Miss Out On

Posted by 8 Comments

It is NO LONGER 2017 but that doesn’t mean you cannot revisit the past and read some amazing books that came out last year. This list is based on what I’ve read and still isn’t entirely complete because I HAVEN’T READ SO MANY BOOKS that came out last year. I also wanted to narrow it down so as not to dump too many books on your tbr! The following is a list of some of the best books out in 2017 in my opinion.
Looking for a book to make that will make you cry, or at the very least, make you FEEL? These books might have something in store for you. Just as an FYI, all of these books involve death.

Saint Death by Marcus Sedwick

What To Say Next by Julie Buxbaum

Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer

The Girl with the Ghost Machine by Lauren DeStefano

Words in A Deep Blue by Cath Crowley

Honestly, I am not really the kind of person who actively seeks out books that are gonna tear me apart and usually prefer some feel-good reads. Basically, don’t shit on the fluff because fluff is amazing and important.

You’re Welcome Universe by Whitney Gardner

I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo

A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares by Krystal Sutherland

We Are Okay by Nina LaCour

Hello, Universe by Erin Entrada Kelly

2017 was an amazing year for diverse books which meant we also got a lot more books that dealt with identity and intersections. We need diverse books where a character’s identity has nothing to do with the book but we ALSO need diverse books where characters explore and learn about their identities.

Pashmina by Nidhi Chanani

Forest World by Margarita Engle

The Lines We Cross by Randa Abdel-Fattah

Mina doesn’t really struggle or explore her identity in The Lines We Cross but her identity is central to the novel which is why it is in this category as opposed to another!

That Thing We Call a Heart by Sheba Karim

If what you really want is a book that dark, gritty and/or complex as fuck, these might just strike a chord with you. Be aware though, THINGS GET FUCKING REAL. So……

Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson

Done Dirt Cheap by Sarah Nicole Lemon

Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds

All the Wind in the World by Samantha Mabry

2017 was a year where I didn’t read as much genre fic as I would have liked. It was a hard year so I stuck to a lot of contemporary and the known but I did venture out of that a couple of times and did read at least two books that just REALLY stuck out to me.

Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza

Warcross by Marie Lu

SO, there you have it! A semi-definitive list of some of the best books that came out in 2017! Anything out from last year I need on MY tbr?

2017 has been a YEAR, amirite? I’ve been struggling to figure out what I want to do for my last post of the year because I don’t know if I just wanted to talk about the best books I’ve read this year (although I will do some of that!) Instead, I am doing a round up of my year personally and in books!

-Watched Twilight 5 times (I am really trying to make it 6 before the year ends) Update: ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN

-Graduated 2 terms early from college with latin honors

-Adulted this summer (lived away from home and college, fed myself, paid bills, etc)

-Baked a FUCK TON. It was basically a coping mechanism but hey, I baked a tart for the very first time and am…

12 Books I Need More Than Cake Coming Out in 2018

Posted by on 12/26/2017 • 6 Comments

2018 is gonna be a good year for books. Maybe. Hopefully. As long as these books I need more than cake don’t let me down. Otherwise, its gonna be a bad year for books and I am calling quits.

1. Meet Cute: Some People Are Destined to Meet

Who doesn’t want a story about cute meet cutes? I DO. PLEASE GIVE IT TO ME. I WANT IT.

2. My So-Called Bollywood Life by Nisha Sharma

I am here for a Bollywood rom-com in literary form. That is all. I came out of the womb ready for this.

3. Royals by Rachel Hawkins

I’ve read 7/8 of Rachel Hawkin’s books so you bet your ass I am dying to read Royals. You’re lucky you didn’t have to hear me scream when the…

7 Non-Fic Books On My TBR

Posted by on 12/21/2017 • 2 Comments

As I grow older, the more fond I become of reading non-fic and in particular, celebrity memoirs. Even just two years ago, I would have gagged at the thought of me picking up a memoir to read and yet here we are. I’ve started spending MONEY on them. I am a wild child. Anyway, here is a list some of the non-fic (all celeb memoirs) that I’ve been eyeing and wanting to read lately!!

1. Born a Crime by Trevor Noah

When young Trevor Noah took over on the Daily Show for Jon Stewart, I was over the moon. At some point, even if you love them, you get tired of listening to 50yo white men. He was a fresh new voice and I’ve really enjoyed the show. His…

4 Anticipated Sequels That Will Make it Even Easier for Me to Say Bye to 2017

2017 has been an absolute garbage year not just on a political level but like a personal level (for me at least.) Back in 2016, I was so excited to bid the year adieu and yet here we are, again. I am not particularly looking forward to 2018 because wow, what a scary path ahead of us, but there are some books coming out that I’ve been waiting for since before I was born and I just wanted to scream about them for a little bit to make myself feel a little bit more pumped to bid this year GOODBYE.

1. Trouble Never Sleeps by Stephanie Tromly

I’ve been waiting for this book since 2016 and its unfair that I still have to waitttt. If you haven’t read this…

Reading for the Holidays

‘Tis the season and you might be craving a book reflective of the season to read. Well don’t you worry, I did ~some~ work to compile a list of some recent-ish releases to get you in the mood for the holidays!

Picture Books Queen of the Hanukkah Dosas by Pamela Ehrenberg

If the title and cute cover doesn’t sell you on this one, I don’t know what will. I heard the title and I knew I needed this adorable picture book in my life.

Fred and the Lumberjack by Steven Weinberg

This adorable little picture book isn’t centered around any holiday but its still such a goo read for the season. Its got a little beaver who just wants to make a new friend and a home. 10/10 cuteness rating.

Bookish Gifts for the Bookworm in Your Life

Holidays are officially in season! I mean they’ve technically been in season for a while but… its all official now. Happy first day of Hannukah to those who celebrate! It’s last minute but today I am bringing you a list of bookish goodies to buy the bookworm in your life. I promise it’ll be more helpful than last year (but, okay, if anyone got me any of those things, I’d be a happy person.) A little last minute shopping never hurt anyone!

1. Puffin Classics

They are fairly inexpensive and come with jaw-dropping covers. Know a bookworm in your life who appreciates classics and gorgeous covers? Cannot go wrong with one of these:

2. Notebooks

There are lots of them out there and a bookworm will always cherish a bookish…

Bookish Confessions

The new year is just around the corner and it’s gonna be a new year, new me (probably for like 5 seconds.) To aid my journey of reinventing myself for 2018, I thought I’d get some deep, dark, confessions off my chest. I hope you’ll still want to hang with me after learning about some of the horrifying things I’ve done but if not, I understand.

1. Like a regular person, I like to eat while I read but one time, while I was reading Breaking Dawn which I had borrowed from my review, I accidentally dropped the slice of pizza I was eating inside the book and never told my friend. She never said anything and didn’t disown me so I guess she never found out.
