5 Reasons to Read the Vampire Academy Series + Giveaway

5-reasons-to-read-vampire-academy

The Vampire Academy series is one of my all-time favorites and today the fancy 10th anniversary edition also comes out. To celebrate 10 years of this wonderful book being out in the world, I am going to share my 5 reasons for reasons for reading this series!

1. OTP: Rose and Dimka

I am sorry, I should probably start with why Rose is extremely badass and stuff but Rose and Dimka are my favorite part about this series. AND NO I DONT HAVE TEARS IN MY EYES AS I AM TALKING ABOUT THEM. SOMEONE IS JUST CHOPPING ONIONS NEAR ME. They are one of my top 3 otps for a reason. They are incredibly supportive of one another and so good at communicating. They have their problems too but they work well together and are honestly meant to be. I cannot imagine a world where these two wouldn’t be together. I know some might hard-core feel the ick factor of an instructor/student relationship (which is completely valid!!!) but I’ve always felt that that was tastefully handled throughout the series. They are equals in each others eyes.

2. The main character: Rose

Rose is wonderful. She is witty, sarcastic (we have the same sense of humor really), willing to do anything for her friends, in power of her body, and just a general badass. She isn’t just a badass because she kicks butt, she is badass because she is smart as well. She may be a little impulsive but who is perfect? I love her voice, and she is part of the reason why I binge read this series in under a week (EVEN THOUGH THE later books get LOOOONG.)

3. Great secondary characters: I love me some awesomesauce ladies.

One of my other favorite things about this book is the array of kick ass ladies who are not kickass in the same ways. They aren’t just caricatures of Rose. They differ from her and sometimes act like her foils. They learn from each other and all grow as characters. FUCK YEAH GIRL POWER.

4. Vampires + Boarding School

Okay so I don’t like vampires. I really don’t. But Vampire Academy is one of my favorite series ever so Mead did something verreh verreh right. For one, she made different classes of vampires, some that we were familiar with and others we weren’t. Not all vampires are immortal which also helped me appreciate the vampires more (I don’t like immortality because I am weird.) It was an original take on vampires IMO and made reading the series all the more fun.

5. The series is action packed and addicting

This series is SO MUCH FUN TO READ. It goes by fast, TOO FAST (because I honestly did not want the series to be over when I read the last page.) There is action, swoons and a whole lot of fun. Also fun secrets get revealed.

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth’s magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires—the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa’s best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir’s Academy, a school for vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. But inside the iron gates, life is even more fraught with danger…and the Strigoi are always close by.

Thirteen-year-old Jack Buckles is great at finding things. Not just a missing glove or the other sock, but things normal people have long given up on ever seeing again. If only he could find his father, who has disappeared in London without a trace.

But Jack’s father was not who he claimed to be. It turns out that he was a member of a secret society of detectives that has served the crown for centuries—and membership into the Lost Property Office is Jack’s inheritance.

ARC Review: Trouble Makes a Comeback by Stephanie Tromly

Posted by on 11/25/2016 • 0 Comments

I’ve been waiting to read Trouble Makes a Comeback for a while now and it completely exceeded my expectations. It was also a comfort read I picked up post-election because I needed something that would make me feel good even for a short period of time. Trouble Makes a Comeback did just that.

Digby is back (after disappearing for 6 months and not keeping in touch) and so is trouble. Honestly, I was so worried we’d be waiting for a part of this book for Digby to be back. I couldn’t handle that wait but HE WAS BACK starting first chapter and I have so much love for him. He is a precious cinnamon roll too good, too pure for this world. One of the complains I had in Trouble is…

Kid Lit Corner #1: Teddy & Co + Lucy & Andy Neanderthal

Posted by on 11/01/2016 • 0 Comments

If you know me, you know that I LOVE children’s literature. I love reading not just YA and Middle Grade books but I adore chapter books and picture books (although this has been a more recent development when I started experimenting with reading tastes.) I know not everyone does though so I thought I’d distinguish my kid-lit reviews by starting a new Kid Lit Corner thing on the blog.

Teddy & Co Cynthia Voigt

GOODREADS  | PURCHASE

Teddy is a thinking kind of bear. Of all his friends, he does the most wondering. He lives with a ragtag group of lost toys—a very hungry snake, an elephant who likes to bake, two charmingly silly pigs, and a reclusive penguin—and they all bump along happily together. But…

ARC Review: Journey’s End by Rachel Hawkins

Posted by on 10/27/2016 • 4 Comments

Are you looking for a spoopy read for the Halloween season? Have you considered picking up a delightful middle-grade Halloween-esque novel? If so, consider reading this charming novel. I am a huge fan of Rachel Hawkins’ Hex Hall and Rebel Belle series’ so I was all about this book but it wasn’t quite what I expected (not in a bad way.) It has a lot of the fun feel from her YA books but the characters don’t sound the exact same and I LOVE that. They aren’t just the same characters but a little younger and in a different setting.

Journey’s End is a small town located in the middle of nowhere Scotland but it is unlike most small towns because of the magical fog. I think we’ve seen enough scary movies to…

Review: Lost in Texas (The Living Dead Boy #2) by Rhiannon Frater

Posted by on 10/25/2016 • 1 Comment

As you are all probably aware, I love Rhiannon Frater. She writes amazing books with in depth characters, and tons of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. This follow up to the first book was no exception. The book may be short, but it packs a punch. Right from the start there is a tension about things. The looming threat of zombies, and the people around about to snap from fear and feeling trapped. I flew through this book simply because I had to. I couldn’t stop until I knew the outcome of it.

Josh is back of course and he is undoubtably one tough kid. Yes, he’s scared, but he has seen enough horror movies to know the things that will make you become zombie…

Reaction Post: This is Shyness by Leanne Hall

This Is Shyness is one of those wonderful Aussie gems that is available on this side of the ocean and I am so glad it is because it is such a beautiful book. I am not going to do a traditional review for this one but want to experiment a little.

Welcome to Shyness, a place where the sun never rises and the people who live there are anything but normal…

THIS IS SHYNESS is about a boy who can howl and a girl trying to escape. Over the course of the night they go on an adventure, explore shyness and discover some things about themselves. They might or might not fall in love while they are at it 😉

Review: The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

Posted by on 10/14/2016 • 12 Comments

Feels in a gif:

I usually find it hard to express all my feels about a book in a singular gif but with The Hating Game, it was quite easy. Actual pic of me after I finished the book.

I haven’t read a rom-com I loved this much in years and I think The Hating Game encompasses everything I love about good rom-coms and a good romance. It made me feel so mushy and happy on the inside and I am glad that The Hating Game found its way into my life. This book has already received so much hype and so many people are already loving it so instead of doing a review review, I thought I’d list 5 quick reasons that might make you want to pick this book up.

1. Main…
